Sri Lankans have many great qualities. Friendship, loyalty, forgiveness, kindness. Missing from the list is integrity. It's just not in our DNA. When we were children, our parents told us you should never steal. But then they said unless your neighbour is going to steal, in which case you better steal before they do. Now we are the most corrupt country in Asia. Maybe the world.
Thousands of police officers, grama sevakas, judges, lawyers, business owners, government servants, business executives, and school principals are corrupt. They are wonderful people, kind to family and friends, respectful and decent. But they are corrupt and for this they will be punished.
Corruption is the hole in the bottom of the bucket. For Sri Lanka, the hole is so big the bucket has run dry. The following guidelines will plug the hole.
